Well of course a chick will do best to answer you this but my daughter and her friends all do it so I can help a little.
The hair straightener is a clamp like device, like a giant alligator clip with a heating element on both sides. But there are guards to keep you from burning yourself. I don't know if they stick it on parallel or perpendicular.
But I know sight doesn't have to be a issue for you because I've seen them do it in the main room, no mirror, just doing it to their hair while watching a show, texting and lmfaoing, chattering and doing any number of other activities common to teenage female homo sapiens in their natural habitat.
So if they can without a mirror, I'd say you can.

I used to straighten my hair all the time.. it's actually really easy once you know how to do it.. The easiest way is to take a small section of your hair at a time. As the second poster mentioned, the straightener is a clamp like device, so you take the small section of hair and slowly pull the straightener through it until it is straight. If you straighten your hair everyday though, you'll probably want to use some kind of conditioner treatment because the heat can dry out your hair.
hope this helps.. let me know if you have more questions. :)

hi! I'm really just echoing the previous posters here but straightening hair is really very easy! not to say that it isn't time consuming if you have long hair! like the previous poster said its easiest if you do one section at a time, I usually have hair ties on hand so that I can tye the rest of my hair back while I work with a small section of my hair, once you have straightened a particular section you can plat it so that it is out of the way so you can concentrate on the remaining hair. Platting the hair when straightened usually works best because then you don't get the grove of the hair tie in your newly straightened hair. its the heat that dries out the hair btw its kind of unavoidable and that's why its advisable to use a hair protector product. anyway if you have any more questions feel free to ask, its a good topic as I only learnt these straightening methods from a sighted friend otherwise I probably wouldn't know as much as I do!
